Simon Pagenaud wins at Belle Isle Park for 1st IndyCar title

DETROIT, June 2 (UPI) -- Simon Pagenaud claimed his first IndyCar victory Sunday in the second of two weekend races at Belle Isle Park in Detroit.

The French driver's win was also the first of the season for Schmidt Peterson Motorsports.

He emerged unscathed after a 10-car pileup on the 29th lap, triggered when Sebastien Bourdais rear-ended Will Power in the middle of the 2.346-mile, 13-turn street circuit.

Pagenaud started sixth and led twice for a total of 18 laps, grabbing the lead for good when James Jakes pitted on Lap 58.

Jakes took second place while pole-sitter Mike Conway -- who won Saturday's first leg of the weekend doubleheader -- held down the third spot.

Scott Dixon and Dario Franchitti rounded out the Top 5.
