LOS ANGELES, May 21 (UPI) -- Vinny Del Negro, who led the Los Angeles Clippers to their only two playoff appearances over the last seven seasons, was fired as the NBA's team coach Tuesday.

Del Negro's contract expired at the end of this past season, which was his third with the team. The Clippers were 128-102 under Del Negro.

The 56-26 record by the team was worth the Pacific Division title, the first such banner won by the franchise. The team went from a .390 winning percentage in Del Negro's first season to .606 in 2011-12 to .683 in 2012-13.

The Clippers had been in the playoffs one season -- 2006 -- since 1997 but qualified for the playoffs each of the last two years. Los Angeles lost in the conference semifinals in 2012 and was ousted in the first round by the Memphis Grizzlies this season.

Del Negro, who coached the Chicago Bulls for two seasons, owns an overall NBA coach record of 210-184.
