CLEVELAND, May 20 (UPI) -- Yan Gomes hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the 10th inning Monday, giving the Cleveland Indians a 10-8 win over the Seattle Mariners.
The Indians swept the four-game series with Seattle, taking three in walk-off manner. But Monday's win was more of a gift as Mariners fielders made errors in the ninth and 10th innings that kept Cleveland in the game.
Solo home runs but Kyle Seager in the eighth and Endy Chavez in the ninth gave Seattle a 7-6 lead with Mariners' closer Tom Wilhelmsen, who was 11-for-11 in save situations, coming into the game for the bottom of the ninth.
Jason Kipnis singled but Wilhelmsen got two outs before Nick Swisher singled with Kipnis taking third. Carlos Santana hit a hard grounder to the right side. First baseman Justin Smoak made a good play on the ball and made an accurate toss to Wilhelmsen covering. But the pitcher dropped the ball for an error and Kipnis tied the score.
Smoak hit a two-out homer in the 10th that put Seattle ahead 8-7. With Charlie Furbush (0-3) pitching, Michael Brantley led off with a single. Drew Stubbs attempted to sacrifice but Smoak dropped the ball at first. Gomes followed a high drive into the left-field seats.
Joe Smith (2-0) got the win despite giving up Smoak's home run in the 10th.
Ryan Raburn and Gomes hit back-to back-home runs in the Indians' four-run second inning. Kendrys Morales had three hits and two RBI for Seattle's 12-hit attack.
