MLB: St. Louis 4, Milwaukee 2

ST. LOUIS, May 19 (UPI) -- Rookie John Gast tossed 5 1/3 innings in his second major league start Sunday and the St. Louis Cardinals beat Milwaukee 4-2.

Gast (2-0), filling in for the injured Jake Westbrook in the Cards' rotation, allowed two hits and a pair of walks. The former Texas Rangers farmhand struck out five.

Seth Maness and Trevor Rosenthal combined for 2 2/3 scoreless relief innings and Edward Mujica recorded his 13th save for St. Louis.

Yadier Molina, Jon Jay and David Freese each supplied an RBI during a four-run fourth inning and the Cards went on to win the rubber match of a three-game series.

Former Cardinal Kyle Lohse (1-5) took the loss for Milwaukee, allowing four runs on eight hits over six innings.

Jeff Bianchi went 2-for-4 with an RBI for the Brewers.
