PARIS, May 18 (UPI) -- David Beckham assisted on a goal Saturday in what was likely the final game of his career, a 3-1 win by Paris Saint-Germain over Brest.

Beckham, who was given the captain's arm band prior to the contest, set up a Paris Saint-Germain score in the 31st minute with an accurate pass to Blaise Matuidi, who fired it into the back of the net.

The former England captain helped PSG claim the Ligue 1 championship in the contest at Parc des Princes.

Beckham, who had announced this week he would retire at the end of the season, received a standing ovation when he was taken out 10 minutes before the end of the game, shedding tears as he exited the field as he was embraced by each of his teammates.

The 38-year-old former star for Manchester United, Real Madrid, AC Milan and the Los Angeles Galaxy ended the day with his 10th career league title.

He has yet to say if he will play in PSG's season finale May 26, but Saturday's tribute indicated it was likely his final game.

Over his storied career, Beckham has also won a UEFA Champions League medal and appeared in three World Cups and two European Championships with the English national team.
