LOS ANGELES, May 17 (UPI) -- Power play goals by Dustin Brown and Trevor Lewis in the final 2 minutes Thursday rallied Los Angeles to an unlikely 4-3 victory over San Jose.

The defending Stanley Cup champion Kings won their sixth consecutive playoff game, letting a two-goal lead get away before coming from behind in the closing moments of the contest.

Los Angeles thus took a 2-0 lead in the Western Conference semifinal series. San Jose will host the next two games on Saturday and Tuesday.

Marc-Edouard Vlasic put San Jose in front 8:56 into the third period, but he went to the penalty box with 2:19 left to serve a delay of game penalty. With Brad Stuart already having been called for tripping 22 seconds earlier, the Kings wound up with a two-man advantage.

Los Angeles seized on that opportunity when Brown deflected a shot past Antti Niemi with 1:43 to go in regulation. Lewis scored just 22 seconds later to touch off a Los Angeles celebration.

Los Angeles appeared to be in charge when goals by Jeff Carter and Drew Doughty gave the Kings a 2-0 lead less than 5 minutes into the second period.

Before that period was over, however, San Jose had come back to tie it with Patrick Marleau and Stuart accounting for the scoring.

Jonathan Quick made 28 saves to get the win. Niemi stopped 27-of-31 shots.

San Jose was without defenseman Raffi Torries, who was suspended for the remainder of the series for a hit to the head of Los Angeles forward Jarrett Stoll in Game 1 on Tuesday.
