MLB: St. Louis 10, New York Mets 4

ST. LOUIS, May 15 (UPI) -- Carlos Beltran had three hits and four RBI Tuesday to lead the St. Louis Cardinals past the slumping New York Mets 10-4.

Beltran's tally included a three-run homer in the fifth to stake the Cards to a 9-0 lead and nail down their 11th win in their last 13 games.

Jon Jay added a solo home run for the Cards and Allen Craig had two RBI.

The 11-hit outburst paved the way for John Gast (1-0) to win his Major League debut. Gast gave up four runs on six hits and struck out three.

New York scraped up six hits in its 13th loss in its last 16 games. Marlon Byrd led the Mets with a two-run homer, and John Buck and Lucas Duda had an RBI apiece.

Dillon McGee (2-5) suffered the loss after allowing six runs -- five earned -- over four innings.
