Los Angeles snapped a four-game losing streak and avoided a three-game sweep at the hands of the Astros. A win would have moved Houston within a half game of the Angels in a bid to escape the American League West cellar.
Houston had a 5-3 lead heading into the eighth, but the Angels sent eight men to the plate and scored three times on just two hits.
Los Angeles loaded the bases with nobody out against Hector Ambriz (0-2) before Trumbo delivered his double that tied the game. Travis Blackley then replaced Ambriz and eventually allowed up a sacrifice fly to Alberto Callaspo that gave the Angels the lead.
Houston put two runners on with nobody out in the bottom of the eighth, but could not push across a run and the Astros then went quietly in the ninth while Ernesto Frieri was picking up his fifth save.
The win went to Garrett Richards (2-3), who worked the seventh inning.
Matt Dominguez drove in three runs for Houston -- one with a single in the second and two more with another single in the sixth.
