NHL: San Jose 4, Vancouver 3 (OT)

SAN JOSE, Calif., May 8 (UPI) -- The San Jose Sharks clinched their Western Conference quarterfinals series Tuesday with a 4-3 overtime victory over the Vancouver Canucks.

Patrick Marelau scored a power-play goal with 6:42 left in overtime when he pounced on a rebound off a shot by Joe Thornton that Canucks goaltender Corey Schneider blocked but could not control.

San Jose swept the series.

Joe Pavelski scored two goals for the Sharks in regulation, Brent Burns added one goal, and Thornton chalked up three assists. Antti Niemi made 32 saves in the win.

Alexander Burrows and Mason Raymond both had a goal and an assist for the Canucks. Alexander Elder also scored while Schneider made 43 saves amid a barrage of 47 shots on goal.
