KANSAS CITY, Mo., May 6 (UPI) -- Chicago White Sox pitcher Gavin Floyd will have season-ending ligament surgery, the team said Monday.
Floyd, 30, last pitched April 27. He has been diagnosed with ulnar collateral ligament and torn flexor muscle in his right elbow. The White Sox said Floyd will undergo surgery Tuesday in New York. Recovery time for this type of procedure is usually 14-19 months.
A right-handed starting pitcher, Floyd was 0-4 with a 5.18 earned run average in five starts this season. He left the game after 2 2/3 innings in his last start and was placed on the disabled list the next day.
Floyd broke into the major leagues in 2004 with Philadelphia and was with the Phillies for three seasons before joining the White Sox. In a 10-year career, Floyd is 70-70 with a 4.48 ERA. His best season was 2008 when he was 17-8 with a 3.84 ERA.
