AUSTIN, Texas, May 6 (UPI) -- Corey Knebel, the star pitcher for the University of Texas, was suspended for three games after he tried to help a teammate pass a drug test, officials say.

Knebel willingly substituted his urine for that of a teammate who had taken Adderall, an amphetamine that is on the NCAA's list of banned substances, the Austin American-Statesman reported Sunday.

Knebel, an All-American, was not allowed to play the series with Kansas State. The Longhorns lost the series 2-1.

A team spokesman said Sunday that Cameron Cox, a sophomore pitcher, has been suspended indefinitely for an unspecified violation of team rules.

Knebel was also suspended for two games in mid-April during the Kansas series for violating team rules. He later said the suspension was for arguing with pitching coach Skip Johnson.

Knebel has a 3-3 record with eight saves and a 2.68 earned-run average.
