OEIRAS, Portugal, May 4 (UPI) -- Third-seeded Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova defeated Carla Suarez Navarro 7-5, 6-2 Saturday in the women's singles final at the Portugal Open.

It was the fifth WTA title overall for Pavlyuchenkova and second in four weeks. She had a three-set win April 8 in winning the WTA event in Monterrey, Mexico. Suarez Navarro, seeded fourth this week, fell to 0-5 in championship matches, a string that includes a loss in the 2012 Portugal Open final.

Pavlyuchenkova, 5-0 lifetime versus Suarez Navarro, fought off six of the seven break points she saw and ended up with two breaks in each set. All of those break chances for Suarez Navarro were in the first set.

After the tight first set, Pavlyuchenkova was more in control of the second. She won nearly 60 percent of the points in the final set, losing just seven points in her four games serving.

Pavlyuchenkova dropped one set in the week and collected about $42,000 along with the championship. Suarez Navarro was given $21,000 as the runner-up.
