Dimitrov caps Madrid Open day with win

PORTLAND, Ore., May 3 (UPI) -- Donovan Ricketts and Bobby Shuttleworth combined to make 13 saves Thursday, bringing about a 0-0 tie between Portland and New England.
Portland dominated the play with Shuttleworth having to make nine saves for New England, but the Timbers could not get the goal they needed to move into second place by themselves in the Western Conference.
The one point earned by Portland (3-1-5) left the Timbers tied with Los Angeles for second place, six points behind conference-leading Dallas.
New England (2-3-3) is in seventh place in the East with nine points, two behind Philadelphia.
The five ties played thus far by Portland leads MLS.
