MUNICH, Germany, May 2 (UPI) -- No. 1-seed Janko Tipsarevic had little trouble advancing to the quarterfinals with a straight-set win Thursday at the BMW Open in Germany.

Tipsarevic took out Grega Zemlja 6-4, 6-2 while winning about two-thirds of the point on serve and half of those when Zemlja served. The second set was even more lopsided, with Tipsarevic dropping only seven points in four games serving.

The other three matches Thursday went to third sets, including third-seeded Tommy Haas's 6-4, 6-7, (3-7), 6-1 win over Ernests Gulbis.

No. 6-seeded Florian Mayer, who didn't see a break point after the first set, rallied for a 2-6, 6-4, 6-2 win over Marinko Matosevic and Daniel Brands defeated Gael Monfils 6-3, 3-6, 6-0 in a relatively quick 69 minutes. Brands won 75 percent of the points in the third set.

Friday's quarterfinals have Tipsarevic going against Brands while fourth-seeded Philipp Kohlschreiber takes on Viktor Troicki in the top half of the draw. Also, Haas faced Mayer and No. 5-seeded Alexandr Dolgopolov plays Ivan Dodig in the other quarterfinals.
