DETROIT, April 30 (UPI) -- Justin Verlander fired seven innings of one-run ball and the Detroit Tigers backed him with three homers Tuesday in their 6-1 win over Minnesota.

Verlander (3-2) broke a two-start winless with the efficient performance, during which he allowed one run on five hits. The Detroit ace issued a pair of walks and struck out eight.

Miguel Cabrera smacked a two-run homer in the first inning, Alex Avila added a solo shot in the second and Prince Fielder capped the scoring with a two-run clout in the fifth for the Tigers, who won a fifth straight.

Twins starter Vance Worley (0-4) was tagged for six runs on 10 hits in a 4 2/3-inning effort.

Wilkin Ramirez went 2-for-3 with an RBI for Minnesota.
