Suarez Navarro advances in Portugal Open

OEIRAS, Portugal, April 29 (UPI) -- No. 4-seeded Carla Suarez Navarro rolled through a first-round win Monday at the Portugal Open tennis tournament.

Suarez Navarro finished off a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Marine Erakovic in 61 minutes. She won 62 percent of the points on serve and 63 percent off Erakovic's serve.

Suarez Navarro took three-quarters of the points in the second set, allowing Erakovic to win just four points in her three games serving.

Fifth-seeded Sorana Cirstea, despite a letdown in the second set, defeated Anabel Medina Garrigues 6-2, 2-6, 6-1 but Svetlana Kuznetsova ousted No. 6-seeded Varvara Lepchenko 6-7 (2-7), 6-3, 6-2.

No. 7-seeded Elena Vesnina advanced with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Maria Joao Koehler.

Other Monday results saw Yanina Wickmayer stop Anna Tatishvili 6-1, 7-5 and Ayumi Morita defeat Laura Robson 6-2, 7-5.
