MUNICH, Germany, April 29 (UPI) --
Daniel Brands needed to rally for a first-round win Monday at the BMW Open tennis tournament in Germany.
Brands edged wild-card entrant Tobias Kamke 5-7, 6-4, 6-3, pounding out 16 aces, including six in the third set when he dropped only five points on serve and advanced.
Brands had a pair of breaks in each the second and third sets.
The other three matches in the main draw Monday were all decided in straight sets.
Marinko Matosevic ousted another wild card in a 6-2, 6-4 win over Kevin Krawietz without losing his serve.
Dmitry Tursunov was on the court just 67 minutes in a 6-3, 6-4 decision over Paul-Henri Mathieu in which he won 70 percent of the points on serve.
Ivan Dodig beat Nikolay Davydenko 6-4, 6-4, facing only two breaks points.
