MINNEAPOLIS, April 27 (UPI) -- Pedro Hernandez recorded his first major league win with five scoreless innings Saturday and the Minnesota Twins spanked Texas 7-2.
Hernandez (1-0), a 24-year-old left-hander, scored the victory in his third career start. The Venezuelan scattered five hits, issued one walk and struck out three.
Josh Willingham went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer and two runs scored while Aaron Hicks added a two-run double for Minnesota, which broke a two-game skid against Texas.
Rangers starter Derek Holland (1-2) was touched for four runs (three earned) on five hits over seven frames. He walked one and struck out six.
Mitch Moreland drove in a pair of ninth-inning runs for Texas.
