Sanchez (3-1) struck out 17 batters over eight innings, the most in the history of the Tigers franchise. He allowed five hits, walked one and threw 127 pitches before giving way to Bruce Rondon in the ninth.
Sanchez had averaged six strikeouts in his four previous starts this season.
The seldom-used Tuiasosopo was given a start in left field for the Tigers and he highlighted a 15-hit attack.
Tuiasosopo contributed a two-run single during a four-run third and then hit a three-run homer during a six-run fourth. It was his first home run of the season and the sixth of his career.
The Detroit record for strikeouts had been 16, set by Mickey Lolich in 1969. Sanchez also set an MLB record for most strikeouts during a regular-season, interleague contest.
Atlanta starter Paul Maholm (3-2) gave up eight runs on 10 hits in 3 2/3 innings. The Braves have dropped five of seven.
