PHILADELPHIA, April 25 (UPI) -- Oliver Lauridsen's slap shot goal with 6:31 to play Thursday lifted the Philadelphia Flyers to their third straight victory, 2-1 over the New York Islanders.
The Flyers have won five of their last six, but that run of success has come too late to earn them a playoff spot. They will miss the post-season for the first time in six years.
Danny Briere scored in the opening period for the Flyers.
The playoff-bound Islanders lost their second straight and they could slip all the way to the No. 8 seed if they lose their final regular-season game Saturday.
Kevin Poulin made his first start in goal for the Islanders since April 2 and stopped 28 shots.
