MLB: Toronto 6, Baltimore 5 (11 innings)

April 24, 2013 at 4:30 PM

BALTIMORE, April 24 (UPI) -- Maicer Izturis walked with the bases loaded in the 11th inning Wednesday, allowing the Toronto Blue Jays to take a 6-5 win over the Baltimore Orioles.

Baltimore reliever Jim Johnson (1-2) got the first two outs in the 11th but J.P. Arencibia and Munenori Kawasaki each singled and Brett Lawrie was hit by a pitch to load the bases,

Izturis then took four straight pitches -- none of which was very close -- for a walk that forced in Arencibia.

Defense, which had been shaky earlier in the game, allowed Toronto a chance to bat in the 11th. With two runners on and two outs, J.J. Hardy singled to left. Manny Machado tried to score from second but Rajai Davis made a perfect throw to Arencibia, the Blue Jays' catcher, and got Machado by a step at the plate.

That left Esmil Rogers (1-1), who pitched a two-hit 10th, in position to collect the win. Casey Johnson had two strikeouts in a perfect ninth for his sixth save.

Toronto used four home runs -- a two-run shot by Arencibia in the second and solo homers by Davis, Edwin Encarnacion and Jose Bautista -- to build a 5-2 lead. The Orioles posted a three-run rally, that Machado capped with an RBI triple, to tie the score in the seventh.
