MLB: St. Louis 2, Washington 0

WASHINGTON, April 23 (UPI) -- Adam Wainwright fired 8 1/3 scoreless innings Tuesday, staking the St. Louis Cardinals to a 2-0 whitewash of Washington.

Wainwright (4-1) held the Nationals to five hits, issuing just one walk while striking out nine to record the dominating victory.

Edward Mujica secured the win with his third save.

Carlos Beltran and Allen Craig supplied the Cards' offense with run-scoring hits in the fourth inning.

Ross Detwiler (1-1) took the hard-luck loss for Washington, yielding two runs on eight hits with two walks over six innings.
