LONDON, April 22 (UPI) -- Roger Federer, who decided to pass up this year's Monte Carlo Rolex Masters, returned to the world No. 2 ranking in men's tennis Monday.

No. 1-ranked Novak Djokovic defeated Rafael Nadal 6-2, 7-6 (7-1) in Sunday's Monte Carlo final. The match broke Nadal's 46-match winning streak in the event, which he won eight consecutive years before falling to Djokovic.

But with Andy Murray losing in the third round of the tournament, it was Federer who made a move in rankings, returning to the No. 2 spot after a three-week stint at No. 3. Murray slips to third, 10 points behind Federer. That was the only change in the Top 10.

Djokovic has 12,900 points after running his 2013 record to 26-2 with three championships. Federer has 8,670 points and Murray comes in with 8,660.

David Ferrer, who also skipped the tournament in Monte Carlo, remains fourth with 6,970 points and Nadal is fifth at 5,985.

Tomas Berdych, with 4,760 points, is sixth but just 10 points up on No. 7-ranked Juan Martin del Potro, who has 4,750. Jo-Wilfried Tsonga is eighth with 3,875 points while Richard Gasquet (3,365) is ninth and Janko Tipsarevic (3,000) is No. 10.

Nadal puts another lengthy winning streak on the line at the Barcelona Open in Spain, where has won his last 34 matches. He won the tournament from 2005 through 2009, didn't play in 2010, and won again in 2011-12.

Ferrer is seeded first, however, with Nadal second and Berdych third in the tournament. Tipsarevic is the top seed in the BRD Nastase Tiriac Trophy tournament in Romania.
