NHL: New York Rangers 4, New Jersey 1

NEW YORK, April 21 (UPI) -- Ryan Callahan tallied a pair of goals Sunday and the New York Rangers ended New Jersey's playoff hopes with a 4-1 victory over the Devils.

Brad Richards helped out with a pair of assists for the Rangers, who reeled off their fifth win in six contests and joined idle Ottawa in seventh place in the Eastern Conference with 52 points.

Derek Stepan and Taylor Pyatt also found the net while Henrik Lundqvist turned aside 26 shots for New York.

Martin Brodeur made 18 saves for the defending Eastern Conference champion Devils, who will sit out the post-season for the second time in three years.

Andrei Loktionov provided New Jersey's only goal.
