ARLINGTON, Texas, April 19 (UPI) -- A.J. Pierzynski
and Craig Gentry both had two RBI in a six-run fifth inning Friday that propelled Texas to a 7-0 blanking of Seattle.
Yu Darvish (3-1) struck out 10 and allowed only three hits over seven innings, but the game was in doubt until Texas broke loose with its big inning.
The Rangers sent 10 men to the plate in the fifth with all the runs being charged to starter Joe Saunders (1-2).
Texas loaded the bases with one out before Pierzynski looped a single to left that brought home Lance Berkman and Adrian Beltre.
Jeff Baker then drew a walk to reload the bases and a ground out by David Murphy delivered the third run of the inning. Gentry followed with a two-run triple and he scored on a double by Ian Kinsler.
Baker also hit a home run in the second, the 38th of his 11-year career. Only once has Baker had more than five home runs in a season.
