NHL: New Jersey 3, Philadelphia 0

PHILADELPHIA, April 18 (UPI) -- Martin Brodeur made 23 saves Thursday and recorded his 121st career shutout in bringing New Jersey a 3-0 victory over Philadelphia.

New Jersey ended a 10-game losing streak that all but wiped out its playoff chances. It was the first win for the Devils since March 23.

They were in seventh place in the Eastern Conference at the time, but since then have plummeted out of post-season contention. New Jersey is six points behind the eighth-place New York Rangers with five games remaining.

Ryan Carter put the Devils in front 5:36 into the second period and that was all the scoring until Matt D'Agostini put a wrist shot past Ilya Bryzgalov with 5:50 to play.

Adam Henrique added an empty-net goal with 1:13 to go.

The three goals represented an offensive outburst for the Devils, who had been shut out in their previous two outings by Toronto and Ottawa.

Bryzgalov gave up two goals on 30 shots.
