SEATTLE, April 18 (UPI) -- Bryan Pena's 14th-inning RBI broke a 1-1 tie that stood since the 7th inning and the Detroit Tigers defeated the Seattle Mariners 2-1 at Safeco Field.

Charlie Furbush (0-1) put two runners on at the top of the 14th before Blake Beavan stepped in for Seattle. Jhonny Peralta's sacrifice bunt advanced the runners, then Victor Martinez scored when Pena grounded out to short.

Seattle's Felix Hernandez and Detroit's Max Scherzer each struck out 12 batters over eight innings.
