MLB: Chicago Cubs 6, Texas 2

April 18, 2013 at 5:15 PM

CHICAGO, April 18 (UPI) -- Carlos Villanueva gave up just four hits in seven innings Thursday in the Chicago Cubs' 6-2 win over the Texas Rangers.

Villanueva (1-0) allowed only five base runners and three of those were eliminated in double plays. He did give up home runs to Ian Kinsler -- his fifth of the season -- and to Nelson Cruz, who has two homers.

He walked one and struck out six.

In addition to the defensive help with three double plays, the Cubs supported Villanueva with 13 hits, four by Welington Castillo.

Castillo's first hit pushed Nate Schierholtz to third where he was driven in by Luis Valbuena for a 1-0 Chicago lead in the second inning.

David DeJesus led off the third with a triple and scored on an Alexi Ogando wild pitch. After Starlin Castro walked, Anthony Rizzo and Alfonso Soriano hit back-to-back home runs for a 5-0 lead and one out later Ogando (2-1) was removed from the game.

Kinsler hit his home run in the fourth inning but Castillo singled and scored when Valbuena doubled. The Cruz homer came in the seventh inning.
