Pittsburgh Steelers match offer, keep receiver Emmanuel Sanders

April 15, 2013 at 4:49 PM   |   Comments

PITTSBURGH, April 15 (UPI) -- The Pittsburgh Steelers announced Monday they will retain receiver Emmanuel Sanders by matching the New England Patriots' offer sheet.

The deal will keep Sanders, a Steelers' unrestricted free agent, with Pittsburgh for one more year, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported Monday, noting the Patriots' offer sheet nearly doubled, to $1.323 million, the amount the Steelers offered to pay.

Had Sanders gone to New England, he would have been the second receiver to leave the Steelers during the off-season. Another unrestricted free agent, Mike Wallace, signed a five-year, $60 million contract with the Miami Dolphins, the newspaper said.
