April 14, 2013 at 2:28 PM

KATOWICE, Poland, April 14 (UPI) -- Second-seeded Roberta Vinci won a first-set tiebreaker and then went on to dominate top seed Petra Kvitova Sunday, claiming the first Katowice Open title.

Italy's Vinci won 81 percent of her first service points en route to a 7-6 (7-2), 6-1 triumph over the Czech Republic's Kvitova in the championship tilt of the inaugural WTA Tour event at Spodek Arena.

Vinci emerged with the win in her first final since last year's Dallas tournament, improving to 8-1 all-time in championship matches.

Kvitova fell for only the third time in 13 career title contests in just her second meeting with Vinci.

The Czech had scored a straight-set win over Vinci in the third round of the 2011 Wimbledon tournament, which ended with Kvitova's first career Grand Slam title.
