MLB: New York Mets 16, Minnesota 5

April 13, 2013 at 12:36 AM   |   Comments

MINNEAPOLIS, April 13 (UPI) -- Jack Buck hit a grand slam and was one of three New York hitters with four RBI Friday in leading the Mets to a 16-5 rout of Minnesota.

Buck homered in his fourth straight game as part of a 15-hit attack that did little to warm up the chilled atmosphere in which the game was played.

Daniel Murphy and David Wright also had four RBI each. The Mets scored five times in each of the first two innings to quickly decide the contest.

Buck became the first catcher in baseball history to hit six home runs through the first 10 games of the season.

Jon Niese (2-0) went five innings to get the win, giving up five runs on five hits.

Minnesota's Vance Worley (0-2) retired only three batters and wound up allowing nine runs on seven hits with two walks.
