April 12, 2013 at 11:08 PM

NEW YORK, April 12 (UPI) -- Major League Baseball announced Friday San Diego outfielder Carlos Quentin had been suspended for eight games for charging the mound in a game Thursday night.

Quentin went after Los Angeles starter Zack Greinke after Greinke had hit Quentin with a 3-2 pitch in a one-run game.

In the bench-clearing melee that followed, Greinke suffered a fractured left collarbone and will require surgery that will keep him out of action for two months.

Los Angeles Manager Don Mattingly said Friday he felt Quentin should be suspended for as long as Greinke will be lost to the Dodgers.
