April 10, 2013 at 12:25 AM

SAN DIEGO, April 10 (UPI) -- Will Venable homered, tripled and drove in four runs Tuesday, elevating the San Diego Padres to a 9-3 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers in their home opener.

Venable's bases-clearing three-bagger in the eighth inning highlighted a five-run outburst that iced the win for San Diego, which had begun the season with five losses in six road games.

Nick Hundley added a solo shot in the victory.

Luke Gregerson (1-0) retired Juan Uribe with two outs and a run in the seventh to earn the victory after starter Clayton Richard had allowed a pair of runs through five frames.

The Dodgers' Ronald Belisario (0-1) absorbed the loss after surrendering a run in the seventh.

Uribe bashed a two-run homer for Los Angeles.
