TRENTON, N.J., April 9 (UPI) -- Four New Jersey high school baseball players have suspended as officials say they are investigating the reported hazing of a sub-varsity player.
In the alleged incident, at least one sub-varsity player was held down while other players bit the player, The Times of Trenton reported Monday.
The biting, which was allegedly "a ritual that has gone on for years," was in some instances severe enough to break the skin.
The head coach of the team at Florence High School, Joseph Frappolli Jr., has not been disciplined but administrative action against him was "possible," said Donna Ambrosius, school superintendent for Florence Township.
The incident was allegedly reported by a friend of the hazed player. Ambrosius said district policies prohibit disclosure of the names of the bitten players or those players who have been suspended.
Ambrosius said the incident is under investigation by the district's anti-bullying coordinator, the athletic department and school administrators.
She said the suspended students could possibly be reinstated after the investigation is concluded.
