Judge frees NFL from Ravens' logo lawsuit

BALTIMORE, April 9 (UPI) -- A federal judge says he has released the NFL from a copyright infringement suit by a Baltimore man who designed the Ravens' first logo known as the "Flying B."

Frederick E. Bouchat had included the NFL in a lawsuit, claiming he had not been compensated for licensing of the logo to video game maker Electronic Arts, The Baltimore Sun reported Monday.

Bouchat said he wasn't getting credit for use of the logo in some Madden NFL video games in which users can choose to dress the games' players in "throwback" uniforms.

In his ruling, U.S. District Judge Marvin Garbis said Bouchat had not presented "a scintilla of evidence" that NFL Properties had licensed the use of the logo to EA and had financially profited from it.

The case against Electronic Arts is continuing.
