ATLANTA, April 9 (UPI) -- Former Atlanta Falcons tight end Greg McCrary has been hospitalized in grave condition, his brother said.

Phil McCrary said his 61-year-old brother was "not doing well," The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported Monday. The nature of the former football player's illness was not reported.

ESPN erroneously tweeted earlier in the day Greg McCrary had died.

Greg McCrary was a fifth-round draft pick by Atlanta in 1975, and he played with the Falcons until 1977. From 1978 to 1981, he played with the Washington Redskins and the San Diego Chargers.

In all, he played 74 games in the NFL, making 13 starts.

He was an assistant football coach at Cedar Grove High School from 2003 to 2008.
