MLB: New York Yankees 7, Detroit 0

DETROIT, April 7 (UPI) -- CC Sabathia allowed four hits over seven scoreless innings Sunday and the New York Yankees avoided a sweep with a 7-0 victory over Detroit.

Sabathia (1-1) held the Tigers to four singles while walking three and striking out four for New York, which fell in the series' first two contests at Comerica Park.

Jayson Nix led the Yankees' offense, delivering a two-run homer, while Kevin Youkilis and Francisco Cervelli supplied two RBI each.

New York reached Tigers ace Justin Verlander (1-1) for three runs in the second inning when Cervelli doubled home Ichiro Suzuki and scored on Nix's two-out blast to left field.

Verlander (1-1) went 7 1/3 innings, yielding seven hits while walking two and striking out four.
