MLB: Cincinnati 6, Washington 3

CINCINNATI, April 7 (UPI) -- Jay Bruce and Brandon Phillips each delivered a run-scoring hit during a sixth-inning outburst Sunday that carried the Cincinnati Reds over Washington 6-3.

Bruce finished with three RBI overall and the Reds used Derrick Robinson's pinch-hit, go-ahead single to ignite the big frame.

Johnny Cueto (1-0) recovered to notch the victory after allowing a three-run homer to Kurt Suzuki in the second inning. He surrendered seven hits over six innings, walking three and striking out six.

Aroldis Chapman got his second save despite yielding a one-out double by Suzuki in the ninth.

Nationals starter Stephen Strasburg (1-1) was touched for nine hits and six runs over 5 1/3 frames. The Washington ace issued four walks while recording five strikeouts in the loss.
