NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J., April 2 (UPI) -- Rutgers basketball coach Mike Rice has been disciplined and further discipline is unlikely, a school official said as he released video of Rice abusing players.
Athletic Director Tim Pernetti, who suspended Rice for three games and fined him $50,000 in December, said after showing the tape to reporters the coach would stay on the job, The (Newark, N.J.) Star-Ledger reported.
A compilation of scenes from Rutgers practices during the preceding three years, the 40-minute tape shows Rice using gay slurs to insult players, throwing basketballs at their heads, and shoving, kicking and grabbing them on the court.
In the video, Rice is shown calling a player an "(expletive) fairy" and "(expletive) faggot."
Pernetti told reporters he was showing them the tape because the school had learned ESPN was planning to air portions of it during the program "Outside the Lines."
Stars trade Jaromir Jagr to Bruins
DALLAS, April 2 (UPI) -- The Dallas Stars said Tuesday they have traded veteran right wing Jaromir Jagr to the Boston Bruins for a draft pick and a pair of prospects.
Stars General Manager Joe Nieuwendyk said Dallas would receive a conditional second-round pick in the 2013 NHL Draft and young minor-league forwards Lane MacDermid and Cody Payne in return.
"Jaromir Jagr produced as a consistent scorer for our team all year and we would like to thank him for his contributions to our hockey club," Nieuwendyk said. "With our eye to the future, we have acquired some valuable assets that we believe strengthen our organization."
Jagr, 41, was the Stars' leading scorer this season with 14 goals and 26 points.
The Czech has racked up 679 goals and 1,000 assists in 1,380 career games.
He is expected to provide some scoring punch for the Bruins, who hold the fourth seed in the Eastern Conference with less than four weeks to go in the regular season.
The Stars are the 12th spot in the West, three points out of a playoff slot.
Ex-NBAer Crittenton indicted for murder
ATLANTA, April 2 (UPI) -- Former Georgia Tech basketball star and NBA player Javaris Crittenton has been indicted on murder and other charges, Georgia prosecutors said Tuesday.
Authorities said a Fulton County grand jury had handed up 12 counts against Crittenton, including murder, gang-related activities, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.
The 29-year-old former Washington Wizards player had been out on bail since late 2011 after being arrested at John Wayne International Airport in California on charges stemming from the Aug. 19, 2011, slaying of 22-year-old Julian Jones in Atlanta.
Jones was shot to death as she stood outside her home with two other people, with the gunfire coming from the driver's side of a sport utility vehicle.
Homicide detectives said Crittenton was trying to shoot at a rival gang member he believed had stolen jewelry from him, but Crittenton's attorney says the former first-round NBA draft pick is innocent and the victim of erroneous eyewitness testimony.
