Deal struck with coach in hazing scandal

DES PLAINES, Ill., April 2 (UPI) -- Officials at a suburban Chicago high school said they struck a deal with a soccer coach accused in a hazing scandal.

Maine West High School will provide Coach Michael Divincenzo with an attorney to represent him in litigation in exchange for not challenging his dismissal, the Chicago Tribune reported Tuesday.

Allegations of hazing surfaced last fall on the Maine West boys' soccer and baseball teams.

Several soccer players at the Des Plaines, Ill. high school said they were sexually assaulted by teammates under the guise of hazing, the Chicago Sun-Times reported.

The Maine West School Board voted to fire Divincenzo in December after first dismissing him without pay.

Divincenzo has agreed to cooperate in the defense of a lawsuit filed against the school district under terms of the deal struck Monday night.

Neither Divincenzo nor his attorney could be reached for comment.
