MONTREAL, April 1 (UPI) -- Jeff Halpern scored the go-ahead goal and Carey Price turned aside 18 shots Monday in the Montreal Canadiens' 4-1 victory over Carolina.

Halpern's tally early in the second period broke a 1-1 tie and put the Northeast Division-leading Habs on the path to their third straight win.

Price turned aside all eight shots he saw in the middle frame as Montreal increased its divisional lead over Boston to three points.

Max Pacioretty found the net in third period and added an empty-netter in the victory.

Jordan Staal scored and Justin Peters allowed three goals on 28 shots for the Hurricanes, who remained four points behind Winnipeg for first place in the Southeast Division.
