NHL: Detroit 3, Colorado 2

DETROIT, April 1 (UPI) -- Jimmy Howard finished with 22 saves and Johan Franzen sparked Detroit's offense with a pair of assists Monday in the Red Wings' 3-2 win over Colorado.

Howard turned aside all 15 shots he saw during the first two periods as Franzen was helping out on goals from Justin Abdelkader and Daniel Cleary.

Damien Brunner also found the net for a 3-0 lead as the Wings rebounded from an embarrassing 7-1 Sunday home loss to Chicago.

The Avalanche got third-period goals from Jamie McGinn and Matt Duchene but it wasn't enough to prevent their 12th consecutive road loss.

Semyon Varlamov started in goal for the Avalanche but was pulled in the second period after surrendering three goals on 13 shots.

Jean-Sebastien Giguere relieved and made seven saves the rest of the way.
