DALLAS, March 31 (UPI) -- Brad Richardson and Justin Williams each scored in the third period Sunday for the Los Angeles Kings, who hung on for a 3-2 win over Dallas.

Richardson's first of the year 5:40 into the final frame broke a 1-1 tie and Williams' tally only 69 seconds later iced it for the Kings, who outshot Dallas 40-15 and en route to their third win in four contests.

Jeff Carter potted his 20th of the season and Jonathan Bernier made 13 saves for Los Angeles, which holds the fourth seed in the Western Conference.

Jamie Benn and Ray Whitney scored for the Stars, who came into the contest one point out of the West's eighth and final post-season slot.

Kari Lehtonen made 37 saves for Dallas.
