Sajjhaa wins Dubai Duty Free for Godolphin

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates, March 30 (UPI) -- Sajjhaa snuck through on the rail to take the lead in Saturday's $5 million, Group 1 Dubai Duty Free and went on to win by 1 3/4 lengths.

The Apache was second and Giofra finished third.

The early leader, Breeders' Cup Turf winner Little Mike, ridden by Gary Stevens, led the field around the turn. But he tired and vacated the rail, giving Sajjhaa the room he needed at the crucial point in the race.

Sajjhaa, representing the Godolphin Racing "home team," is a 6-year-old mare by King's Best. Silvestre De Sousa was aboard as she eclipsed her own course-record time, finishing the 1,800 meters in 1:47.93 over the good Meydan Racecourse turf.

Sajhaa won for the fourth time in this year's Dubai World Cup Carnival for trainer Saeed bin Suroor. She now has eight wins from 17 career starts.

The 14-horse field was packed with international talent, including Group 1 winners from as far away as Australia and the United States.
