Falcons sign Umenyiora to 2-year deal

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga., March 27 (UPI) -- The Atlanta Falcons announced Wednesday they had signed free-agent defensive end Osi Umenyiora to a two-year contract.

NFL.com reported the deal was worth $8.5 million, of which $5 million is guaranteed.


Umenyiora spent all of his previous 10 years in the NFL with the New York Giants. He played in each of the 16 games with four starts last season, recording 55 tackles and six sacks.

He is a native of Atlanta, having made the Pro Bowl twice while with the Giants in addition to winning two Super Bowl rings.

Umenyiora set an NFL record with 10 forced fumbles in 2010. He also set a team record with six sacks in a single game against Philadelphia during the 2007 campaign.
