Recari holds on for Kia Classic victory

CARLSBAD, Calif., March 24 (UPI) -- Third-round leader Beatriz Recari carded a 3-under 69 Sunday and held off Karrie Webb down the stretch to stay in control and lock up the Kia Classic title.

Recari entered the final round with a 1-shot lead but found herself two strokes behind Webb after the latter's birdie on the par-four 16th.

The Spaniard, however, responded with an eagle on the same hole to vault back into a share of first while Webb stumbled to a pair of bogeys on the last two holes and registered a 2-under 70.

Recari closed her round with a pair of pars to end at 10-under 207, securing only her second career title.

Webb earned sole possession of second place at 9-under, while Paula Creamer (71) and I.K. Kim (70) shared third place one shot further back.

World No. 1 Stacy Lewis carded a 3-under 69 to end in a tie for fifth with Lizette Salas (70) and Cristie Kerr (71) at 7-under.
