NBA: Detroit 92, Charlotte 91

CHARLOTTE, N.C., March 23 (UPI) -- Charlie Villanueva put Detroit ahead with a layup in the closing seconds Saturday and the Pistons held on for a 92-91 decision over Charlotte.

Villaneuva's score with 15 seconds to go came after he had missed a potential go-ahead 3-pointer less than 5 seconds earlier. Greg Monroe kept the possession alive with an offensive rebound, however, leading to the decisive basket.

The Pistons only came away with the victory after both Kemba Walker and Josh McRoberts misfired on shots for Charlotte as time expired.

Villanueva scored 18 points, Jason Maxiell had 14 points and four rebounds and Brandon Knight had 10, six boards and four assists for Detroit.

Walker pumped in 25 points for the Bobcats.
