Djokovic reaches third round at Sony Open

MIAMI, March 23 (UPI) -- Novak Djokovic ended a long night of tennis at the Sony Open Friday by dismissing Lukas Rosol in just 53 minutes.

Djokovic began a new winning streak after suffering his first loss of the year last week against Juan Martin del Potro in the semifinals at Indian Wells. The world's No. 1 player had captured his first 17 matches of the season.

Rains delayed the action during the evening Friday, so when Djokovic took the court he was ready to get things over in a hurry. He defeated Rosol 6-1, 6-0 to set up a third-round match against Somdev Devvarman, who ousted Edouard Roger-Vasselin 4-6, 6-4, 7-5.

Del Potro, the fifth seed at this event, was surprisingly eliminated by Tobias Kamke 7-6 (7-5), 6-1. No. 3 seed David Ferrer moved on without having to play when Dmitry Tursunov withdrew from their match with an injury.

James Blake also reached the third round by defeating Julien Benneteau 6-2, 6-3 and will now meet Albert Ramos, who took out 12th-seeded Juan Monaco 6-2, 4-6, 6-3.
