March 17, 2013 at 5:17 PM

INDIAN WELLS, Calif., March 17 (UPI) -- Second-seeded Maria Sharapova needed only 81 minutes to breeze past Caroline Wozniacki in straight sets to claim the BNP Paribas Open championship.

The former world No. 1 bested Wozniacki 6-2, 6-2 at Indian Wells, firing four aces and breaking the Dane's serve four times en time en route to the victory.

Sharapova, now ranked second in the world, corralled her first title of 2013 and 28th of her career, collecting $1 million in prize money.

The eighth-seeded Wozniacki, meanwhile, fell short in her bid for a second Indian Wells title in three years.

She fell to 2-5 lifetime against her Russian opponent.
