NHL: Tampa Bay 4, Carolina 1

TAMPA, Fla., March 16 (UPI) -- Ondrej Palat and Tyler Johnson each tallied their first career goals Saturday and Tampa Bay ended a five-game home skid with a 4-1 win over Carolina.

Nate Thompson and Teddy Purcell also scored for the Bolts, who improved to 3-5 in March with their third straight victory over the Hurricanes.

Mathieu Garon turned aside 21 shots to earn the triumph.

Eric Staal scored and Justin Peters made 26 saves for Carolina, which fell out of first place in the Southeast Division with its second straight loss.

The Winnipeg Jets took over the division lead with their victory over Toronto Saturday.
